About This Image

The number "537" is reversed out of the negative at the bottom right in Le Gray's hand. A very rare and important untrimmed print from Le Gray's summer 1851 expedition for the Mission Heliographique. Most such prints are in institutions. Very few are in private hands. There was a small missing piece at the far left middle of the print that has been professionally restored.

See: Anne de Mondenard, La Mission Heliographique, cat. no.53, p. 241.

Provenance: Gustave Le Gray to Henri Le Secq; Family of the photographer, Henri Le Secq.
