Lisl Steiner (b. 1927, Austria) is a photojournalist, artist, and poet. Since the early 1950s she has traveled the world as a freelance photojournalist contributing to such publications as Time, Newsweek, and The New York Times. She has photographed many notable historical figures including John F. Kennedy, Martin Luther King Jr., Henry Kissinger, and Fidel Castro.

Andre Kertesz began photographing in his native Hungary with limited success and encouragement. Determined to make photography his career, he moved to Paris where he worked as an independent from 1925 to 1935. Kertesz was an innovator in the use of the 35mm camera, which offered him the flexibility and immediacy his work required. As French picture magazines began to gain popularity, he began to be a regular contributor to Vu, Varietes, and Art et Medecine. In 1936 he immigrated to the United States and worked as a freelance photographer. He eventually earned a contract position with Conde Nast Publications in New York and remained there until 1962 when he returned to his personal photographic explorations.
