Coenties Slip, named for original Dutch landowner Conraet Ten Eyck and his wife Antje, Coenties (Co+Antje), was an artificial inlet of the East River on the southern tip of Manhattan that was used to dock sailing ships as the ones photographed by Bracklow. Here, the ships are tightly packed together as workers move between them.
