This is a beautiful and large print and should be seen. Signed and dated on the recto in the lower right margin. Only three such prints were reportedly made. The image was commissioned by Gitanes cigarettes for a book with images by 50 top photographers, all featuring Gitanes cigarettes. The book was entitled "Gitanes": Une exposition de 50 photographes (édition Nathan Image). Besides Hélène Guétary, the firm commissioned images for the book from Jean-loup Sieff, Herb Ritts, William Klein, Jan Saudek, Matthew Rolston, Michel Dieuzaide, Bernard Faucon, Franck Horvat and many others.
Hélène Guétary was born in Neuilly, France in 1957.
She lived and worked in New York for 12 years from 1976 to 1988. Originally a painter and illustrator, she turned very quickly to making multi-media productions. She made a book "Tableaux Vivants", which was presented by the Italian director Fredrico Fellini. She made many of her portraits and fashion work in the large Polaroid format (50 x 60 cm).
