Two New Special Exhibits On I Photo Central Feature Images of African-Americans and Highly Retouched French Criminals
You will find two new Special Exhibits up on I Photo Central, added to the other 33 current exhibits that were already on display. We have also continued to change images and add to our essays for all our Special Exhibits, so they are worth another peek, especially if you have not looked lately.
Charles Schwartz Ltd. has put up both new exhibits.
The first new exhibit is entitled "Photographs of African Americans - 19th & 20th Century". This exhibit includes a wonderful selection of rare cased images that are very well preserved. The small selection of 20th-century photographs includes a few industrial pictures from the archives of the U.S. Steel Company and a beautiful print of migrant workers by Marion Post Wolcott.
The second exhibit put up by Charles Schwartz Ltd. is simply entitled "French Criminals". These photographs are from a series of images of French criminals that were reproduced in the tabloid newspaper, Le Petit Parisien, in the late 1920s and early 1930s. Photos of wanted and condemned criminals appeared in this paper each day. These prints have been heavily retouched for dramatic effect and in order to heighten contrast for better reproduction results. This skillful retouching is attributed to two Italians. The retouching adds a modern and artistic touch to the old photographs.
