Félix Thiollier (1842-1914) was a French industrialist, writer, art collector and photographer. In 1857, he started a ribbon company in Saint Étienne. At age 37 he retired and pursued his interests in art, archeology and photography. His photography was influenced by the work of Camille Corot and he befriended Auguste Ravier, Paul Borel and Jean-Paul Laurens. The Musee d'Orsay published a monograph on him and his work ("Félix Thiollier (1842-1914), Photographer") and had a recent exhibit (closes March 10, 2013). As the Orsay notes: "Remaining resolutely on the fringes of the photographic circles of his time, Thiollier turned out to have created an original body of work which varied between picturesque, post-Romantic rural landscapes and a starkly lyrical view of an industrial world largely ignored by the artistic French photographers of the 19th and 20th centuries." Shipping and insurance costs will be added to the price and must be paid for by the buyer. Pennsylvania buyers must pay appropriate local sales tax. International clients are responsible for their VAT and other custom's oriented charges.
