DESCRIPTION:

Karachi, capital of Pakistan's province of Sindh, is here captured in an early panoramic, two-part photo showing a nascent Colonial-Era urban layout and structures of what is now the fourth most populated city in the world. Frere Hall, which is now at the center of the Bagh-e-Jinnah Gardens (and across from the present U.S. Consulate), is visible on the far right. A superb historical document, with handwritten text on verso that indicates that era's terms for the area, i.e. "Scind" rather than Sindh.
Glass-plate negative is inscribed on recto: "Miehie & Co [??]"; handwritten texts on versos read: "K/our "???gulov/Kurrachu, (Karachi,) Sind" and "Kurachu [?]autonment/Scind India"Please contact the gallery for a quote on shipping and insurance costs. If applicable, residents of New York will be charged sales tax. International clients will be responsible for their VAT.
