Taken in an ancient redwood Californian forest with a lush growth of oxalis covering the forest floor, the photographer's daughter poses, helping her father create what he described as, "an image of interesting contrasts - an ancient virginal forest and a young virginal child. These contrasts manifested the dynamic, cyclic character of natural forces." He once described the making of it saying, " I felt the light was just right, everything was spatially balanced and the relationships between events - the young child, the fresh forest covering, the prehistoric trees, the rotting logs - were all strong and exciting." His wife provided a carefully placed blanket between their daughter and the prickly redwood needles below the soft leaves.
