Rickerby (1921-1972) was a LIFE photographer from 1961 until it ceased publication in 1972. After graduating from Duke University he joined the U.S. Navy serving in Captain Edward Steichen's Navy photography unit during WWII. Between the war and his years at LIFE, he worked as a photojournalist in New York for Acme Newspictures, which is now part of UPI.
