About This Image

Signed, with title and information on the image on the verso of the print. Print probably from the mid-1950s or earlier (has the two-part Agfa logo and paper name).Born in 1910 in Lorraine, France, Gerin became one of France's most beloved photographers, although she was well traveled. She visited Egypt, Greece, Israel, Morocco, Ireland, Netherlands, Germany, Belgium, Austria and Algeria, among other countries. She often experimented with multiple exposures. Her "Parc du Luxembourg, Paris" and "Sur le Pont des Arts", which is an example of her multiple exposure technique, are two of her best known images. While lesser known than some of the other members of the Groupe des XV, she is more associated with the group of the "humanistic photographers" of postwar Paris. She illustrated the book, "Terres Cathares : Le Livre D'oc" and wrote and illustrated "Fontainebleau Chateaux Forets et Paysages en Seine-et-Marne". Gerin is listed in the book by Rosenblum and Kelley, "A History of Women Photographers" and the Auer & Auer and George Eastman House databases. Her work is in the collections of the New Orleans Museum of Art and the Akron Art Museum.
