The influence of the Barbizon School (lead by Millet and Rousseau from 1830 to the 1870s) cannot be underestimated in its influence on Cuvelier's photographic style. Even Corot, the famous landscape painter, was Eugene's best man at his marriage to the daughter of a Barbizon innkeeper.
