Flower and pestal with sexual overtones. Signed "Richard Lorenz" on verso. Framed. Very rare, because Lorenz rarely made prints before he died in 2001.
Born August 28, 1952 in Pennsylvania, Richard A. Lorenz became a noted author, art conservator, curator, and artist. A 1974 graduate of Muhlenberg College in Allentown, PA, Lorenz received his M.A. degree with a certificate in Advanced Studies in Art Conservation granted by SUNY, State College at Oneonta, NY in 1977.
Lorenz was founder and director of the San Francisco Regional Art Conservation Center located in Oakland, CA, and a Fellow of the American Institute of Conservation for Artistic and Historic Works. As a trustee of The Imogen Cunningham Trust, Lorenz organized and curated exhibitions of Cunningham's photographs. Lorenz authored four major books on Cunningham. He also authored a key monograph on the American photographer, Arthur Tress.
As an artist in his own right, Lorenz initially worked in painting and sculpture, before finally focusing on black and white photography, particularly nature studies of flowers.
He passed away in Berkeley, CA, on September 9, 2001.
