Printed with a textured screen. Photographer's stamp on verso. Born in Barcelona in 1887, José d'Espinal lived much of his life in Changé near Laval, France, where he died in 1951. He was well known for his pictorialist work, including his seascapes. He was active in the photography salon of the 1920s-30s, including the 1928 2nd Salon International d'Art Photographique du Bruxelles, the 1930 Internationell Fotografi Utstaallning i Skaanska Gruvan Skansen at the Nordiska Museet and the 1930 6th Salon Internacional de Fotografia de Zaragoza, Sociedad Fotografica de Zarag Pardo. Like many pictorialists, he often worked in the gum and bromoil processes. His work greatly resembles the other noted Spanish pictorialist José Ortez Echague.
