Incredibly rare. Only actual original negative celluloid strip (not the still scarce albumen positives made from these) on the market that I’ve seen in 40 years of collecting and dealing. Comes framed with a modern positive silver print of the strip. The study of movement or locomotion of the horse was the main focus of Marey's chrono-photographic studies, along with human locomotion and the flight of birds, right from the early 1870s onward. In July, 1887, Marey co-authored with Pagès an important article in the "Comptes Rendus de l’Académie des Science" on "Comparative Locomotion: pelvic limb movement in humans, elephants and horses"; and on September 2, 1893, he was the sole author of a second article in the journal "Nature", entitled "Locomotion compared in different animals, new applications of chronophotography"; and in 1898, "Analyse des mouvements du cheval par la chronophotographie".Matted and framed.
