With J.H. initials and 1861 date in pencil in lower left corner and Spithover blindstamp in lower right corner.In the southeast part of the Piazza di Spagna is the Colonna dell'Immacolata (column of the Immaculate Conception). It was erected in 1857--and probably photographed at that time--to commemorate the dogma of the immaculate conception. The column was found in 1777 under a monastery. It is now topped with a statue of the Virgin Mary.Provenance: old collection of J. Harrison, Jr. purchased in 1861.
