Signed and dated in ink in lower margin of photograph.Bohumil Straka was born January 27, 1919 in Cesky, Brod, Czechoslovakia.After he finished his studies at the high school in Cesk? Brod, Straka graduated in 1938 from the State Graphic School in Prague, where he took courses by Josef Ehm and J. Funke.He worked at AKO (now Fotochema) in Cesk? Brod until 1939.After WWII, he worked in the Ministry of Information and at Orbis as a photographer. He was a member of SCSVU (Federation of Czechoslovak Creative Artists) from 1950 onward. He was an independent photographer since 1955, a member of the art commission of Creation (1962-82) and a member of various art commissions.From about 1934, Straka photographed under the direction of his father. During his studies, he was interested mainly in advertising photography and then later in more general photography and portrait work. In later years he only photographed with color slide film. His photographs of nature, cultural monuments and industry have often been included in exhibitions and fairs outside of the Czech Republic.
