This is a well-known image by Nadar. Provenance: from the famous 1961 Nicolas Rauch auction (one of a group of four pieces in lot 132). A very rich unmounted salt print in excellent condition. Comes with the Rauch folder from the auction, there inaccurately termed a "calotype" by Nadar.Augustin Eugène Scribe (French: [December 24, 1791–February 20, 1861) was a French dramatist and librettist. He is known for the perfection of the so-called "well-made play" (pièce bien faite), a mainstay of popular theater for over 100 years, and as the librettist of many of the most successful grand operas. He has a street near the Opera Ganier named after him.
