"Smooth false foxglove, yellow" is written in pencil on the verso by the artist.Antoinette Putman Cramer was class president of Smith College in 1901. That same year she was in charge of the volunteer clerical workers of the Westfield, NJ War Chest and worked in the YMCA. According to City Directories, she lived in New York City in the early 1900s and was listed as a Treasurer (and one of the original organizers) of the Intercollegiate Board of Occupation, an important professional position for a woman at the time. The board involved eight important women's colleges, and was developed as a "superior sort of employment agency" for educated women. She apparently became interested in amateur photography and took up making photograms of botanical subjects using the cyanotype process, which had been a popular way of printing without the use of a darkroom at the turn of the century.Putman-Cramer continued to be heavily involved in women's education and was later the chairperson of the scholarship committees for The College Woman's Club of Westfield in the late 1930s.
