Signed and dated in pencil on verso.Josef Vetrovsky was born in Czechoslovakia in 1897. A prominent amateur photographer, Vetrovsky was a member of the Czech Club of Amateur Photographers in Prague beginning in 1932, and was chairman of the club from1940 to 1943.Vetrovsky focused mainly on portrait and landscape photography, genre pictures and nudes. On the latter work he was strongly influenced by Frantisek Drtikol, who utilized light and shadows as well as the use of geometrical decorations. In 1939 he had an independent exhibition in the Hall of Good Photography in Prague, was published in the Fotograficky obzor (Photograpic Horizon) and the yearbooks Ceskoslovenska fotografie (Czechoslovak Photography). He died during WWII in 1944, so his work is very rare.
