About This Image

Unique early Colloidion glass plate negative and one of Negre's landscape masterpieces. A variant positive print was in Sotheby's catalogue, Collection Marie-Thérèse et André Jammes, L'oeuvre de Charles Nègre, 2002, lot 499, page 157. Charles Nègre exhibited seven Colloidion compositions, all titled South of France, in 1856, London, Photographic Society (Roger Taylor, Photographs Exhibited in Britain 1839-1865). Provenance: photographer Charles Nègre; André Jammes.
