About This Image

McClees and Germon did business in Philadelphia together from 1848–1855, McClees being credited with having made the first collodion negative in the U.S. Here we see a serious and beautifully dressed couple who, from the look of the lady's prominently displayed ring, are newly married. The man wears a white waistcoat and collar. Her lace and satin outfit give the piece exquisite texture. Hand-tinting at the cheeks.
