Adams was an avid pianist, and early in his career struggled with the decision to pursue music or photography. In this candid image, he is posed with Igor Kipnis, a harpsichord genius, whom, undoubtedly, Adams highly regarded both personally and professionally. Jeremy, Igor's son, took the photo.

This unusual keepsake is matted together with a signed letter from Adams: " Dear Igor, Your playing is stupendous! Your Visit was memorable! The record is gorgeous Please return soon!! Cheers for your son! May his prints never fade! Virginia and I send most affectionate greetings. Cordially, Ansel Adams". Adams has also autographed the photograph, "To Igor!! Ansel Adams [illegible] 7-27-83".
