The London Photograph Fair has changed hands. After 12 years of being ably run by vintage photograph dealer Richard Meara, the fair has been taken over by fellow dealers, James and Shemaine Kerr of Pump Park Vintage Photography.
The deal ensures that the fair will continue to run four times a year and will retain its existing format. Future events will take place in the Holiday Inn, Bloomsbury, London, just a few hundred yards from the fair's former location. The change of venue is in response to positive feedback from dealers and visitors alike, following a temporary move to the Holiday Inn for two fairs during 2010.
The London Photograph Fair was established in 1982 and brings together around 40 dealers from the UK, Europe and beyond. While there is an emphasis on 19th- and early 20th-century work, there are exhibitors who show more contemporary pieces, while a number of book dealers exhibit a wide range of photo books. On occasion there are photographers displaying their own work.
Commenting on their purchase of the fair, James Kerr said: "We are delighted to have been able to conclude this deal with Richard. I would like to pay tribute to the work that he has done for the photograph dealing community, in sustaining the event for more than a decade. In taking over we hope not only secure the future of the fair, but also allow it to develop and move forward. We share Richard's vision of the core function of the event, and we would like to build on this by widening the constituency to which the fair appeals.
"We have a number of initiatives planned, including a new website, with full contact details for all participants; increased marketing, with particular emphasis on web-based promotion; and concessionary rates for first time exhibitors."
Dates for 2011 have just been finalised and will see the fair take place on February 20th, May 15th, September 11th and November 20th.
