Originally purchased at auction and exhibited by Serge Plantureux at Paris Photo in November 2012, the plates went back to the auction house as part of a deal struck with dealer Serge Plantureux. The group is now minus the plates showing Auguste Mestral, which went in the first auction to three institutions (Musee d'Orsay (1); Bibliotheque National (2); and the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art (1)), and the photographer with camera tentatively identified as Gustave Le Gray in a self-portrait, which remains with Serge Plantureux. One other plate had been previously sold, leaving the ten in this auction.
