William Klein--Broadway by Night, New York City, NY

Photographs usually come one by one, but then even in a random way some images may relate to each other. Even more to the point, when photographers started to think in progressions of images, the relationships become ever more complex. Diptychs, triptychs, series and even "random" contact sheets all exhibit the wonderful effect of multiplying the possibilities by multiplying the images.

In this Special Exhibit, you will find examples from the 19th, 20th and 21st centuries--all allowing a photographer's imagination to wander into the further complexities of multiple images. From Disderi's contact plates to Ralph Gibson's relational diptychs, and from Teynard's odd ethnographic diptych to William Klein's series "Broadway by Night", the mix is infectious.
