Dan Marcolina captures the rapid evolution of photography. With his mastery of new tools, he brings fresh emotional depth and powerful expression to the medium.
Marcolina explores a hybrid creative practice where machine learning systems are shaped not by automation, but by the taste, intuition, and aesthetic discernment of the artist.
He blends still photography with motion storytelling. With a smartphone or I-Pad, images spring to life, offering inventive, surprising, and visually thrilling experiences.
As a designer and photographer for over 45 years he has been shooting, processing and showing traditional work, along with authoring and lecturing on digital image creation for decades. Marcolina Design was the first all digital design firm in Philadelphia when formed in 1989. Their images have been used by clients like Adobe, Apple, AT&T etc.
His work has been in dozens of shows and publications. He wrote the first book on the art of mobile photography for Peach Pit Press called, iPhone Obsessed, which was translated into three languages. Over the last several years he has immersed himself in AI image creation and has lectured for National Geographic, Adobe, American Photographic Association, AIGA, several colleges and agencies.
His work is currently being show at the Woodmere Art Museum in Philadelphia. His AI work is simply an extension of his passion to create work that reaches past the typical definition of photography.
