Is there anything more romantic than an evening in Paris, the city for lovers? And the Eiffel Tower, the ponts (bridges) and the nightlife all provide a focus for an evening in this city of lights.

In this Special Exhibit of photography on Paris at Night, you will find everything from the Tour Eiffel lit spectacularly in celebration, to Paris' quiet back streets and alley ways, from its brasseries and follies to its street fairs and street walkers. As you might expect, the photographers were mostly French or at least based in Paris. Some of Paris' top fine art photographers are represented here: Laure Albin-Guillot, Maurice Chanu, Daniel Masclet, Izis, Roger Schall, Willy Ronis, Robert Doisneau, the Russian B. Lipnitzki, the Hungarian Geza Vandor and the German Germaine Krull. But some of the anonymous wire services also made some contributions.

The images reflect important history (for instance, celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Eiffel Tower) and anonymous private moments. These night photographs include people who were famous, such as Josephine Baker, but most are totally unknown and anonymous as the night itself.

Come visit Paris without the jet lag.
